Mexican Police Chief and Bodyguards Killed by Cartels

The police chief of Minatitlan-Cosoleacaque Inter-Municipal police force, Juan Moreno Lopez, and his body guards Alvaro Chagala and Moises Ramous were killed in Veracruz, Mexico at the end of April during an attack by cartel gunmen. Although army soldiers and local police officers have launched an operation to locate the assailants, no results have been produced.

This most recent murder of a Police Chief brings in to question the quality of security these individuals are receiving. It exposes the lack of planning, intelligence, and juxtaposes the skill level of the cartel gunmen in relation to that of the police officers and […]

Impersonation of a Police Officer: Bad Security!

Two security guards, who escorted rapper Lil Wayne to a nightclub in Indiana, now face charges of impersonating police officers. The two men led a caravan of tour buses in a car with sirens and flashing red and blue lights while also wearing police-like uniforms and gun belts. These two security guards serve as a great example of what not to do and unfortunately counterfeit cops are not uncommon. It is incidents like this that give the Security industry a bad name! Before deciding on an Executive Protection firm, there are several questions a client may consider. They may ask […]

Border Security

Janet Napolitano in a recent interview said, “the border is as secure now as it ever has been”.  I believe that this is not good enough and here is the reason why:  when we provide protection on someone’s estate, office or facility we have failed if we let one bad-guy onto the location.  Our properties are often surrounded by fence and use the most sophisticated cameras, alarm systems, motion detectors and other cutting edge equipment.

This posting is not to compare an estate, or office to a border that has no fence and over 2,000 miles of unprotected land, but the […]

Superbowl Security

Many of us will enjoy the Super Bowl today and will not realize the security preparations that will be in place to keep the stadium and the area around the stadium safe.  The planning and preparation for security starts when one game finishes for the following year.  Weeks before the game starts it is 24 hour/7 days a week protection.

This involves law enforcement and private security including US Secret Service, FBI, ATF, Texas State, and local law enforcement.  They will have counter-sniper teams, SWAT teams, motorcycle police escorts, and dogs that detect explosive devices and will have the most sophisticated […]

Journalists Attacked in Egypt

Anderson Cooper was attacked twice and hit multiple times and Christiane Amanpour and her crew were chased to her car.  They kicked the doors and broke the windshield of Amanpour’s vehicle.

These journalists did have security advisors but not executive protection agents while in Cairo, Egypt.   In all three incidents involving Cooper and Amanpour, it seems that the journalists and their teams were surprised and caught off-guard.  This, in the midst of an anti-American crowd where they had no support from local security forces.

Had they been travelling with a security team – the Agents would have assessed the need to cover […]
