DATELINE: The Holiday Season

Whether you celebrate Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, New Year’s or just the over-all season, the holidays are an exciting and busy time, filled with feasting, celebrating, exchanging gifts, and visiting family and friends. With all the joys of the holiday season come potential safety hazards that can cause injury and even death.

Could this be you?? Before crawling up on the roof to string the Christmas lights, did you know that each year hospital emergency rooms treat about 12,800 people for falls, cuts, shocks, and burns due to incidents involving faulty holiday lights, dried-out Christmas trees and other holiday decorations? And did you know that Christmas trees are involved in about 300 fires annually, resulting in an average of 10 deaths, 40 injuries and about $7 million in property damage and loss? In addition, there are more than 15,000 candle-related fires each year, which result in 140 deaths and $307 million in property loss. Shocking, but true.

Don’t become one of these statistics! Pu-lee-eze follow these common sense rules when jazzing up your office, job site, and home.
