The
transition from winter to spring is normally associated
with conditions like the flu or strep throat. Here
are some basic information concerning the diagnosis
and treatment of strep throat.
1.
Strep throat is an infection caused by group A streptococcus
bacteria. It is contagious, and is spread by the coughing
and sneezing of people with strep throat. Also, touching
a contaminated surface and then touching your eyes,
nose or mouth.
2.
Symptoms of strep throat include:
• red, sore throat with white patches,
• painful, difficult swallowing,
• swollen, sore glands in the neck, and
• fever, nausea, decreased appetite, rash, muscle aches and pains, and
fatigue.
3.
Only a rapid strep screen or throat culture can confidently
distinguish strep throats from sore throats caused
by viral infections. Strep throat usually requires
treatment with antibiotics. With the proper medical
care - along with plenty of rest and fluids – you
should be back to school, work, or play within a few
days.
Also,
a reminder to get your flu shot for the winter in accordance
with recommended American Medical Association and Center
for Disease Control guidelines.
